Long Term Care Facility Residents Should Get COVID-19 Vaccine First
By Becky Bongiovanni, President of CarePatrol
With the positive news of COVID-19 vaccine approval and the impending rollout, an advisory panel to the CDC has recommended that the front-line health care workers, nursing home and senior living residents should get top priority for a vaccine.
As COVID-19 has spread rapidly through the population, people over 60, and especially over 80, have been exceptionally vulnerable. It’s reported that long-term care facility residents account for 40% of coronavirus deaths in the US. And with the number of people in the U.S. aged 65 and older expected to hit 70 million this year, it’s an eye-opening reality of the necessity to care for this growing population.
With social distancing, the cornerstone of epidemic control, leading to further isolation from seniors, our growing franchise network has remained committed to overcoming those hurdles safely from coast to coast across our locations and the thousands of clients we serve across the country. Vaccinating the elderly will allow us to reconnect families and loved ones that have been staying apart and provide our seniors with the social connection they need to thrive.
With an aging population, the demand for our services is only going to continue to grow, even after we put the pandemic behind us. CarePatrol remains dedicated to serving our aging population with the care, respect and love that is deserved.
