Home-based Care Providers Are an Essential Part of Navigating the Nation Back from Pandemic

As the nation looks for ways to navigate back to normalcy from the COVID-19 pandemic, home-based care providers will be an essential part of this process.

Caregivers showcase compassion every day just by the nature of the job they are in, but their dedication and willingness to continue caring for clients during a pandemic is nothing short of heroic.

If the COVID-19 pandemic has made anything more evident, it’s the need to invest in care that takes place in the home. Caregivers will be vital to helping get COVID-19 positive patients out of hospitals and back into their homes, while minimizing their exposure and ensuring they get the care they need to recover.

And with the virus still prevalent, our other obligation in this crisis is to help get people out of an environment, like a critical care nursing home that is seeing an increased trend of positive cases, and moving them to a safe place.

While we continue to devote attention to making sure hospitals have adequate resources, we need to also make sure that service workers going into homes are protected and have the supplies they need — the right tools, technology and personal protective equipment.

With an aging population, the demand for our services is only going to continue to grow, even after we put the pandemic behind us. And with a massive base of service workers who are either on furlough or laid off, many of those fit the criteria for helping others in the home.
